Shade Handmade
My name is Ian, and I create fine woodwork in my home in central Ohio. My belief is that all homes should have at least one piece of well crafted hardwood furniture to last a lifetime. With thousands of years of international heritage, and hundreds of timeless designs and styles, fine woodwork is a sure way to improve your home, and in time, the homes of your children and grandchildren. Every home has a unique space and a unique feel, and sometimes you just can’t find the perfect piece of furniture. I love working directly with customers to design and build the perfect piece for your space, and one that will last a lifetime.
Built to last
Every piece I make is built to last. I use stable hardwoods, strong glues, and the same techniques that were used 2000 years ago. Mixing modern technology and old techniques allows me to make the perfect piece strong and permanent, but without the excess time.
Natural
I use simple, safe, and strong finishes. Chemical finishes contain airborne toxins called VOC’s, which can be dangerous to both me and my customers. I prefer simple, natural finishes that I mix myself in-house. They can be just as strong, and preserve the natural feel and beauty of the wood. In my opinion, that’s well worth the extra time.
Quality
Part of the beauty of handmade furniture is the ability for the maker to be closer to the piece. That means I can ensure every part of the piece exceeds my standards for quality. Before any creation leaves the shop, I spend time inspecting the whole piece for any defects and issues.

Combining materials
While wood is a great material in its own right, there are of course many other
options. Combining wood and other materials is a good way to modernize your
project, and in some cases, reduce cost. For fine woodwork, there’s really no
need to use anything stronger than wood for 99% of tasks. Most of the time,
